Just Breathe.

Sometimes, all we need is a break. Sometimes, all we want to do is take some time away from the outside world, sit back, relax, and breathe. There are certain points in our lives where situations begin to take a toll on us and we begin to feel exhausted. In times like these, we find that some people won’t want to be around people, not necessarily because they have any beef with them and some other times, they might decide to take time off social media too because as we all know, it’s a whole world on its own. People do stuff like these from time to time because they’ve realized that for their sake and the sake of everyone, it’s proper to take a break and just breathe.

Last week, I temporarily disabled my Instagram account (if you know me well enough, you’ll know that I’m most active there) because I was beginning to feel pressured and overwhelmed. I guess exposing yourself to social media all the time does that to a person. I’m someone that thinks a lot so I know what filled my thoughts and honestly, what I needed was a break. I also realized that I needed to channel my energy to other things like my school work and my blog. I decided to take some time for myself, strategize and basically find clarity and so, I did. I went off for a few days and when I decided that I was ready to face the outside world again, I resumed my social media business lol.

Currently listening to this song on repeat.

The whole point of this gist is to let you know that your mental health is paramount. It is okay to take a break from stuff once in a while. It may be a few hours or even a few months but who cares? If you have the opportunity to take time out, do it because it would be impossible for you to give your best to the world if you’re not whole. Truth is that you may not even realize that you actually need a break until you take one.

I feel that we live better when we live without pressure and we tend to impact positively on others if we are happy. It is part of self-care; it is self-preservation. It is not selfish because this is your sanity we’re talking about. Honestly, you’d be happier. So whenever you can, please take some time out and just breathe.

Love,

‘Ruona ❤️

  1. Clarity – to me, it should be the very essence of being human. All we’re trying to do is to get by each day, every man with his own style. However, clarity doesn’t come in troubled seas. It’s comes in a “small tiny voice” when we just “breathe”.

    Thanks for this breather ‘Ruona🤗

  2. 💯 sometimes Temporary isolation is the best care for mental health. It gives time to organize thoughts, re-strategize and come back better

  4. I totally understand your message. Feeling a bit overwhelmed right now so I really get you.
On days like this I would just zone out on some music, something I can sing along to, like worship and then something I can dance to (I’m not a very good dancer). It just makes me feel happy, like I’m in a playground or something 😂
I could pray and when its difficult, talk to a friend about it. I can’t sleep when I’m not at rest so sleeping away the feeling never works for me😂😂😂
Spend some time journaling and going through my journal.
I also enjoy planning, so I could look around and create a to do list of stuff I have to do and how to go about it. It makes me feel like not everything is falling apart 😂 and I still have control over some things
Ah how can I forget food. Get a really nice meal!
Treat yourself with love and grace.

  5. Amazing that sometimes we don’t even know when to take that break! Thank God for ‘forced isolation’ with COVID-19 lockdown. For those who care, surely it’s a time to look inward. Thanks Ruona.

  6. Baby girl, I feel you, as much as this self quarantine has been therapeutic to my mental health, there are times where I feel not enough but I realized that this happens with everyone, sometimes social media displays toxic positivity, making you feel like you’re the only unhappy one but the truth is we’re all going through something one way or the other, all we have to do is live one day at a time 💕

  7. Beautifully written. I believe it’s necessary to occasionally take a break from social media. As much as a helpful tool it is, it can get distracting, overwhelming and frustrating. I feel we need to manage our time properly these days and guard the things we see/interact with. Shalom

  8. The kind of break i need currently my account balance can’t carry it, but the small ones I can get right now I can only Thank the Lord for them, going on breaks is important not only from social media but from people in general, it mustn’t be to do something deep or one kind self discovery thing, could just be to sleep, eat and have peace of mind.

  12. Thank you so so much for this. It is very important to take a breather once we feel choked up with life.
It is not selfish to care for your sanity. Your mental health surpasses people’s ideas of what you should do or how you should live. It is much greater than anybody’s feelings.

Thank you for pointing this out.
